Entertainers celebrate the Year of the Tiger at the Tet Festival.

TET Festival organisers have heralded this year’s event as their biggest ever, with more than 6000 people drawn to the recent two-day extravaganza.

The Vietnamese Luna New Year celebration was held in Wanneroo on February 19 and 20 and welcomed the Year of the Tiger with a slew of entertainment and cultural performances.

Part-organiser Nam Pham said the event was a festival for all nationalities.

“We cater for all families, not just the Vietnamese,” he said.

“This year we were able to draw a younger crowd thanks to the involvement ofAustralian Idol finalist Thanh Bui.

“But the older patrons enjoy the more traditional performances and the opening ceremony was also a big drawcard.”

Wanneroo Mayor Jon Kelly and councillor Nguyet-Anh Truong thanked the Vietnamese community for their contribution to the City’s culture and economy. “Multicultural events like these are very important as the City has 35.4 per cent of people born overseas compared with the national average of 22 per cent,” Mr Kelly said.
